Plastibell
With Plastibell, a small plastic ring is placed around the glans and the foreskin is tied around the ring. The ring remains in place temporarily and usually falls off by itself. Stitches are usually not needed.
- Never pull, twist, cut or force the ring.
- Contact the doctor if the ring shifts, feels tight or swelling increases.
- Contact the doctor if the ring does not fall off within the agreed period.
- If you are unsure, contact the doctor.
Gomco
With Gomco, a metal bell protects the glans while the foreskin is removed in a controlled manner. No ring remains after the procedure.
During the procedure, the doctor carefully selects the appropriate size and checks for bleeding.
How is the method chosen?
Age, weight, general health, bleeding risk and anatomy together determine the choice. The doctor discusses the options with the parents.
The final choice is based on medical suitability and informed consent. In some situations, postponement or referral to a hospital may be more medically appropriate.
